Mediasmith was founded in 1989 with the proceeds from selling a used car. While other agencies have come and gone, Mediasmith has survived and thrived with that same entrepreneurial spirit. We are similarly driven by our three primary values.
Mediasmith is an independent agency, and so we seek out and promote individuals who align with us in their approach to work. We are a distributed workforce (16 states and counting) so independence is an essential element to our productivity. Our culture is open, caring, and flexible. We expect people operating in a culture like this to care about learning, to be proactive, and to be driven by their own imagination. The sparks of invention are inherently individual, and Invention requires freeing individuals.
Cultures of integrity are committed to doing the right thing — not just as a matter of marketing or positioning, but as an uncompromising stance. We articulate much of this as it relates to our client relationships in our Client Bill of Rights. We also sustain a culture that is based upon ethical conduct internally, as we embrace human and intellectual diversity and inclusiveness. Almost 60% of our team self-identify female, and over 60% self-identify as people of color. We have publicly supported Black Lives Matter, International Women’s Day, and easy access to voting and reproductive health services. We have also spoken out against violence towards the Asian American Pacific Islander community. We have put financial contributions behind these and other causes as a company, while matching the individual contributions among our team.
We believe that “environment” can either enhance or diminish team morale and productivity, and that a culture of trust can improve productivity, engagement, and confidence. Supportive truth-telling around performance, active dialog, consistency, behavior modeling at the leadership levels, and built-in accountability are all important components of how Mediasmith operates daily.
